During my service, I gained an experience that I revere as monumental and life changing. AmeriCorps gave me the inspiration and power to choose a career path, and my service continues to shine through into my everyday life. Before I was in AmeriCorps, I was delivering sandwiches to our beautiful neighborhoods here in Pittsburgh, exploring the nooks and crannies of the city, but I was unfulfilled. What I did not know was that I would oversee programs in these neighborhoods all these years later. Without direction, I joined AmeriCorps, but I left with friends, skills and experiences I will never forget, and a new-found passion for community organization and development. I am a graduate from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning/Community Organization and Development. I may sound like an advertisement for AmeriCorps, but I now work for sustainable Pittsburgh-a dream job I was extended through my involvement with the communities I worked for during my service.
